SEPT 2016

A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Friends,
It hardly seems possible that I have just passed the 25 year mark as the Executive Director of the Columbia County Senior Services, Inc.  During those years we have seen the image of the 60+ population change from frail and dependent to strong, healthy and independent.  Improved medications and treatments as well as important nutrition have brought on many of these changes.  We are living longer than ever before.  We are able to move into the Third-Third of our lives with more enthusiasm.  As good as it sounds, if simply living longer was the answer to satisfying Third-Third we would be in great shape.  However, living longer also brings issues with it.  How do we enjoy the Third-Third when we begin to lose the circle of family and friends who have always been our support system?  How do we enjoy lengthening years when our resources begin to dwindle: What happens when our homes need repair and we can no longer maintain them?   How do we survive the loss of independence based upon safely driving a car? What happens when our children or others worry that we are not as sharp as we used to be? Aging and changes happen to all of us whether we are prepared or not.
CCSS Inc.  is committed to continued advocacy on behalf of the 60+ community.  We will be here in the future to provide staff, services, equipment and facilities to make all of our Third Thirds something to which we can look forward. We are grateful for the increased funding awarded to the Center by our local County and City government leaders.  Their commitments and those of individuals who support the needs of the 60+ community will ensure a brighter future for us all. We thank you for caring and making a difference.
Your Friend,

Deborah B. Freeman
Executive Director

VOLUNTEER YOUR EXPERTISE AND TIME TO HELP LEC

The Lifestyle Enrichment Center is seeking skilled people who want to make a difference and donate 4 hours of their time once a week to serve in special jobs at the Center.  Some of the current positions that are filled with volunteers include, computer techs, public relations support, public speakers, woodworking specialists as well as all arts and craft volunteers, Yoga and Tai Chi, master gardeners.  These positions are only filled once each week so we need more people to fill the positions on other days during the five day week.  The process begins with an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator and the job supervisor.  Once you are on board there will be a volunteer orientation and training. You will be able to interact with our consumers and our staff.  The pay while not in cash will be priceless as it allows you to use the experience and skills you have achieved. Visit our website and see what we do and who we are then give us a call at 386-755-0235 Ext 124.
